The American Society for Adaptation Professionals (ASAP) is pleased to launch – in partnership with the California Adaptation Forum – its first Regional Adaptation Leadership Award (RALA) competition at the occasion of the 2nd California Adaptation Forum.
The Award will recognize one individual who has distinguished her- or himself in the climate change adaptation field through exceptional leadership. It is meant to recognize the fact that deliberate, proactive adaptation, preparedness and resilience-building is a change process, a deviation from business-as-usual, a courageous act of doing something new and different. At its heart are individuals who make this change happen. The most distinguished adaptation leaders approach the needed planning and implementation tasks in a strategic, sophisticated, well informed, inclusive, deliberate, effective manner.
The RALA – launched in a region of the country that is often at the forefront of innovative leadership – will be the first ASAP award to recognize individual thought- and action leaders in adaptation. It is distinct from ASAP’s Prize for Progress, which rewards exemplary team efforts and adaptation projects.
The winner will be presented by Beth Gibbons, Managing Director of The American Society of Adaptation Professionals. Both the winner and honorable mentions will be recognized in a press release distributed to the national media, on the ASAP, CAF, LGC and OPR websites, and at a CAF plenary. The winner will receive an award certificate, a $500 gift, a free, non-transferrable CAF registration, and a free one-year ASAP membership.
This event was hosted by the Local Government Commission.
