Session Tracks

Session Tracks

This year’s program will be organized according to six cross-cutting thematic tracks:

Planning and Governance: These sessions will explore the form, timing, effectiveness, and role of community engagement and partnership for planning and governance activities, discuss how to integrate new adaptation planning needs into existing efforts; share community adaptation planning and governance case studies; provide attendees with a basic understanding of how to begin the adaptation process; and ensure adaptation planning efforts lead to tangible and sustainable outcomes.

Implementation: These sessions will showcase replicable implementation strategies, case studies and models; highlight how implementation resources were secured, and share challenges and lessons learned for how to implement climate adaptation at a variety of scales, especially in our most vulnerable and at-risk communities.

Monitoring and Evaluation: These sessions will explore critical environmental, economic and social indicators and frameworks for defining and measuring risk reduction and progress in a variety of setting and geographies; showcase shared framework tools and practices; discuss how to provide stakeholders with timely, actionable information to inform decisionmaking; and lay out ideas for systems that will allow for course corrections as conditions change.

Equity, Climate Justice and Community Leadership: These sessions will highlight effective responses to climate change for our most vulnerable and at-risk communities, including efforts to reduce major vulnerabilities to climate impacts (e.g. income, language barriers, racism, health, age, living conditions and occupation); community involvement in developing solutions; the allocation of resources to support impacted communities; and government, funder and advocate approaches to implementing equitable and sustainable climate action on the ground.

Communications and Engagement: These sessions help foster effective communication and robust collaboration for all Californians; showcase examples of communication and engagement strategies within and across diverse audiences at various scales; highlight the important role of diverse of vulnerable stakeholder voices in defining solutions; demonstrate best practices in discussing climate change; and bring to bear new social science practices for fostering change.

Funding, Financing and the Economics of Adaptation: These sessions will examine the financial aspects of adaptation and how funding and financing can benefit all Californians, such as identifying public and private funding sources; valuation of climate risk and the role of insurance; providing a clear-eyed outlook on the potential economic impacts that adaptation may bring about; and the disproportionate burden and costs on disadvantaged and frontline communities.

This event was hosted by the Local Government Commission.
