Green Event 2023

CivicWell and our forum partners work hard each year to reduce environmental impacts, including the amount of waste generated and energy consumed to produce the California Adaptation Forum.

Forum organizers will also work closely with the Sheraton Fairplex Hotel & Conference Center, and any outside vendors and caterers to conserve resources used during our event, and to ensure the following:

  • On-site recycling and composting is available
  • Only reusable utensils, napkins, and tablecloths are used
  • Condiments and other food items are served in bulk whenever possible
  • Locally grown, seasonal food is incorporated into the forum menu whenever possible

Sheraton Fairplex Hotel & Conference Center: Green Partner

The Sheraton Fairplex Hotel and Conference Center has received TripAdvisor GreenLeaders Certification for implementing the following sustainability measures:

  • Recycling bins in guest rooms, public areas, and meeting rooms
  • At least 75% of interior lightbulbs are energy-efficient
  • Water-efficient faucets in public and guest restrooms – over 90% of staff, guest, and public faucets use 1.5 gallons per minute or less
  • “Green” certified cleaning products – over 75% of cleaning products are certified
  • Over 50% recycled content for all office paper
  • Over 50% recycled content toilet paper
  • Leftover materials are donated or re-used, such as toiletries, food, furniture and electronics
  • Over 75% of flooring/carpeting has “green” characteristics, such as recycled content, renewable or salvaged materials, or being locally sourced
  • Regularly measures water consumption, waste produced, and energy used to identify methods for improvement

Offsetting the Conference’s Carbon Footprint

As done previously at the 2014 and 2016 and 2018 California Adaptation Forum, the forum organizers will calculate the estimated greenhouse gas emissions that are generated as a result of the forum.
