Welcome to the 3rd California Adaptation Forum!
We’re diving headfirst into CAF with interactive workshops to learn about the latest trends and dream up the big solutions – or you might choose to go on a biking or walking tour to see adaptation and sustainability in action! Then, join 700+ Forum participants over lunch to reconnect and network with California’s fiercest adaptation leaders. We’ll wrap up Day 1 with presentations and discussions on the new summary reports for California’s Fourth Climate Change Assessment. With reports to be released mid-August, CAF attendees will be first in line to explore these reports and start to lay the groundwork on how research findings and takeaways can spur action that responds to local adaptation needs. But, wait – it’s not over yet! On Monday night, we’re hosting our famous (loosely speaking) Adaptation Pub Trivia. While you wait, grab a bike and get a JUMP-start on the fun with Sacramento Area Bike Advocates (SABA)!
Kickoff Workshops & Tours
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
Network with hundreds of adaptation practitioners from across the state over a light lunch! Table discussions and other semi-structured networking opportunities will be announced in the final program.
Fourth Assessment Summary Reports: Catalyzing Regional Action
1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
The California Adaptation Forum will host an afternoon of workshops on August 27th that introduce and begin key conversations around the new summary reports for the State’s Fourth Climate Change Assessment (to be released in mid-August). Nine summary reports synthesize cutting-edge climate science and climate resilience solutions for regions covering all of California. Three reports focus on tribal communities, equity and environmental justice issues, coasts and oceans. Finally, the statewide report provides an overview of cutting-edge climate research for the entire state. Leading climate researchers and practitioners will convene to discuss these exciting reports, engage stakeholders in discussion, and start to lay the groundwork on how they can spur action that responds to local adaptation needs.
SABA Fun Ride
5:30 PM – 6:30 PM
Grab your bike, or rent a JUMP bike, and join the Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates (SABA) for a fun ride! While this will be a very casual ride (without any talks), you’ll get the chance to ride Sacramento’s newest protected bike lanes!
Adaptation Pub Trivia
